Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pronounce your business name?

Freyja is a Scandinavian name (you can read the story on our about page). The 'j' is actually silent and it's pronounced Fre-ya.

How did you get started with wedding photography?

Funny story - after I shot my first wedding I never wanted to shoot another wedding again! That's how stressed out I felt throughout the entire day and how disappointed I felt when going through the wedding photos.
I instantly realized that wedding photography wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. But then I started second shooting for another photographer and my passion for weddings grew for every wedding I photographed. Soon I was shooting my own weddings again, both through my own company and as a contractor for a big wedding company. The more I learned, the more secured I felt at every wedding and the more weddings I wanted to photograph.

How would you describe your style?

My style is a mixture of traditional and modern, romance and fun. I love galleries that tells a story and showcases a couple's true personalities.
I'm a portrait photographer through and through. I love telling love stories by capturing real reactions and natural poses. While I do pose my couples the poses are just guidelines. My couples will learn that when I put them in a pose, I still want them to interact with each other. No stiff smiles here! Once I guide my couples to what I want them to do, I step away and let them interact with each other. That way I can capture the natural smiles, the tender touch of a hand, and the look of love for ones partner in a unique and personal way. Just the way wedding photos should be.

Can we get all the digitals from our session?

Yes, of course you can. High resolution digital files are available for purchase, just like gorgeous fine art albums and custom designed wall art galleries. However, I think it's important to provide my clients with tangible memories.

Looking back at history people printed their images. It was a way to gather their memories to be shared with family years later. To this day I love looking back at my old photo albums of when I was a child, or even at the old photo albums of my great grandparents. This would not have been able without the art of printing.
Remember the floppy disks? Who is there to say that in ten years you'll be able to plug your USB into your computer to look at your wedding photos again? A printed album will always be a printed album, ready to be enjoyed and shared for generations to come.

Having said that, I know people like to share their big days on social media. Therefore, all of my sessions come with watermarked social media files that you can share with family and friends. That way you don't have to feel like you are missing out on any images while still being able to purchase the products you love.

Do you travel for wedding photos?

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love traveling. Being able to combine my two passions of photography and travel would be a dream come true. So yes, I would LOVE to travel for your wedding. Please contact me directly for a custom travel quote.

Do you offer the option of two photographers per wedding?

Yes I always have a second shooter with me for each wedding (unless there's a very unique situation). The reason being is the value add that a second shooter provides during a wedding day. My second shooters are present to capture more angles and more candids throughout the day so I can tell your full story!

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes I do. I have both liability insurance and backup equipment.

What does your booking process look like?

For weddings a $1,000 non-refundable retainer and a signed contract is due upfront to secure your wedding date. The retainer and contract ensures that I won't book any other weddings on your wedding date. The remaining balance is due 7 days before your event. For weddings booked within 3 months of the event date, 50% of the total fee is due at time of booking.

For other sessions the entire session fee along with a signed contract is due at time of booking. No services or products will be provided until full payment has been provided.

I accept all credit and debit cards, as well as checks and e-checks. Payments can be made online or in person.
As any small business one of our biggest costs are the bank charges we pay for offering credit card, debit card and e-check services. Our preferred payment method is by check.

How long do we have to wait to receive our pictures?

For weddings I have a 6-8 week turnaround time depending on season.
Regular sessions have a 2-3 week turnaround time depending on season.

How does the ordering session work?

It's really quite simple. If you are local to the Southern California area we'll schedule a time to meet at a local coffee shop to view your wedding photos. If you are not local to SoCal we'll schedule a Skype meeting for the reveal.
During this meeting you'll be able to review all of your photos and decide what products you want to order. Because all orders have to be placed at the time of the meeting I do require all decision makers to be present at the time of the reveal.

Once final payment has been made on the products you've decided to purchase it'll take between 3-6 weeks before the products are available for pickup or to be shipped. All products are inspected by yours truly before delivery to ensure the highest quality and satisfaction.
