The perfect sunset doesn’t exist! Or does it? This evening the sunset showed itself from its best side. These Whispering Sands Milestone Family Pictures turned out stunning. The family looks amazing, and the dramatic sky added to the mood. I’ve known this family for a few years now. I have had the honor to capture multiple milestones for them, and each one just improves.

I can’t get over how beautiful the colors were during this beach sunset shoot in La Jolla. Whispering Sands Beach is truly a gorgeous spot to do family pictures at. Not only do you have a nice stretch of sand to walk on. But the cliffs provide another setting that’s perfect for your family photos.

What made this family session even more special was that we had three generations present. Grandpa was in town and joined in on these Whispering Sands Milestone Family Pictures. I love including grandparents in family sessions. I believe those memories are so important to create. Not only for the grandparent and parents. But for the children themselves. Multi-generational family sessions become very important portraits at one point in the family’s life. These pictures will be treasured and loved by grandkids for years to come.

Also, can we just talk about how stunning grandpa look in his glasses and baby C looks with his lil’ hat? I’m also in awe of how well the family’s outfits and colors match the colors of the sunset. The blue dramatic sky has really given these family pictures a unique look that’s not easily duplicated.

These Whispering Sands Milestone Family Pictures were originally planned to celebrate baby C turning 7 months. Also known as his sitter session. Did you know most sitter sessions end up taking place any time between 6-7 months? Most photographers interchange 6-month milestone pictures with sitter milestone photos. However, I feel it’s more accurate to just call them sitter milestone sessions. Most babies are not able. to sit by themselves when they’re 6 months old. However, closer to 7 months they can sit for a short period of time unassisted and we’re able to capture these amazing milestone portraits.

Of course, we had to make sure we captured some solo portraits of baby boy C as well. Especially in his stunning hawaiian print inspired shirt. Don’t be afraid to include some colors and patterns in your outfits. Combined with some simpler colors and outfits for the rest of the family, patterns can really add to the pictures. But also, these colors fit baby C amazingly.

At the end of the session, as the sun was setting and the sky provided even more drama, we changed outfits and locations. What’s neat about Whispering Sands Beach in La Jolla is that there are so many little nooks and crannies you can use for your family pictures. This little beach that my family is walking on is just a tiny little piece of sand between the rocks. It’s like a private little alcove that’s perfect for your family photos.
