Studio Maternity Pictures with a hidden message
As a maternity and newborn photographer in San Diego, I have the pleasure of working with so many amazing families and hearing their stories. Some sessions really take to your heart, a little more than others, however—those with a particular story that they share. I always feel so honored when families tell me their stories. These studio maternity pictures were one of those sessions.
What is a rainbow baby and how to honor them in your studio maternity pictures
A rainbow baby is a baby born after the loss of another unborn or born baby. It signifies the rainbow after a storm, that something beautiful has arrived. Families have many different ways of honoring their lost babies during both studio maternity pictures and studio newborn sessions.
When this beautiful mama told me her story she also said they had something special they wanted to bring with them for their studio maternity pictures – a Star.
This star represented the baby they lost the prior year. The name they had given their baby meant star. Isn’t that just the most beautiful way to include her in their session for their rainbow baby as well?
Maternity session for the entire family
What’s so nice about a studio maternity session is that it’s not just for the mom-to-be. It’s for the entire family. While the main focus is on mom and her bump, I always incorporate full family portraits as well as try to get some of the siblings themselves.
By taking portraits of just the siblings they feel special and included which is something I feel is very important. It also gives them a chance to get comfortable with me and get to know me which will help during their newborn session.
