La Jolla Shores – A Beach Paradise for Family Pictures
La Jolla Shores is a picturesque beach community situated in San Diego, California. It is a popular destination for visitors who come to enjoy the pristine beaches, clear blue waters, and stunning sunsets. Whether you are planning a family vacation or a solo trip, La Jolla Shores has something for everyone.
As a San Diego Photographer, La Jolla Shores is a popular spot to bring my clients to. Wether they’re looking for family pictures or maternity pictures, the beach has something to offer everyone.
Getting There and Parking by La Jolla Shores
La Jolla Shores is located in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego and is easily accessible by car, bike, or public transportation. If you are driving, there are plenty of parking options available, including street parking and public lots. However, parking can be limited during peak hours, so it’s best to arrive early to secure a spot.
The easiest place to park is in the huge parking lot, right next to the Lifeguard Tower and the bathrooms. This is where you’ll find both access to the beach as well as grassy areas to run around on. You’ll be able to use the board walk to explore nearby restaurants and shops as well.
Why you should make a trip to La Jolla Shores
Scripps Pier
One of the most famous sightings at La Jolla Shores is Scripps Pier. An icon of UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography is a vital research facility that houses numerous environmental monitoring stations. While you can’t walk out on the pier by itself, walking under it has become a popular pastime. At sunset time you’ll see numerous photographers setting up their camera equipment to capture an iconic image of the sun setting between the row of pillars. It’s also a very popular spot for family pictures with its leading lines.
Shopping and Dining
After a day of sun and sand, head to the nearby village of La Jolla for some shopping and dining. The village is home to an array of upscale boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants, ranging from casual to fine dining. Whether you’re in the mood for sushi, Italian, or Mexican cuisine, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your taste buds.
Our favorite spot to visit is The Shore Rider Bar famous for its 1lb burrito. Not only are the foods and drinks great, but it offers an open-air feel as well as games for guests to play while enjoying their food.

La Jolla Shores Maternity Pictures
When these two reached out to book their maternity session they knew they wanted a beach session. They also really wanted to bring their two adorable dogs (which if you know me, of course, I was jumping for joy to be able to include pups in a session), so I immediately thought about the beach by the La Jolla Scripps Pier.
