The location
Silverwood Park in St. Anthony
Silverwood Park sits on the shore of Silver Lake in St. Anthony, about 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. A mile-long paved trail winds through prairie and oak forest, with sculptures and poetry stops along the way. It’s the park I’ve photographed most in Minnesota: two maternity sessions and four family sessions.

For a lot of my sessions here I liked to use both the tall grass prairie look and the deep woods, for some variety in your gallery. But it also depends on the style, feel and background you’re going for, so it fits with your aesthetic at home.

Before your Silverwood session
Photography pass
Silverwood is a Three Rivers park, so paid sessions need a photography pass reserved at least two weeks ahead. I’ll go over it with you when we plan.
Visitor center
It has a café and a rotating gallery, which is handy for a bathroom break or a warm-up.
Park rules
We stay on trails and don’t climb on or move the sculptures.
Best time
Sunrise or golden hour. Fall is beautiful here.

Do I need a permit for photos at Silverwood Park?
Paid sessions need a Three Rivers photography pass, reserved two weeks ahead. I’ll go over it with you when we plan.
Can we bring our dog?
Analee’s session included hers. Three Rivers has its own pet rules, so tell me when you book and we’ll plan around them.
What should I wear?
Solid colors and soft fabrics that move. Navy, cream, sage and rust all look lovely against prairie grass. We go over outfits at your planning consultation.
