The session

Are you in any of your family photos?

Most moms are the ones behind the camera. Years from now, your children will look for you in the pictures: the way you held them, the way they leaned into you. A motherhood session at Studio Freyja is a guided studio portrait session in downtown Anoka, MN, for you and your children, and your own mother or grandmother too if you’d like three generations in one frame.

60–90

Minutes

Enough time for everyone in the frame

A motherhood session runs about 60 to 90 minutes and includes portraits of you, then you with your children, then the whole family together, including grandmothers if you’d like them there. The pace follows your kids, with room for breaks.

Little ones

Kids and nerves? We go at their pace

I plan the session around your children’s energy, and I direct the poses so nobody has to perform. Toddlers who won’t sit still are part of the picture, and the frames show it.

Good to know

Mommy and me photos, without the stress

A few things that make a motherhood session easier, especially with little ones.

Plan around naps, not the clock

Choose a time when your kids are usually rested and fed. A happy toddler matters more than a perfect time slot.

Connection beats a perfect smile

The images families love most are usually the in-between moments: a hug, a laugh, a child climbing into your lap. I pose you so those moments happen naturally.

Start with you

We photograph you on your own while everyone is fresh, then add your children, then the whole family together.

Every age is worth photographing

Babies on your lap, busy toddlers, teenagers who are suddenly taller than you, or grown children with kids of their own.

Wardrobe

Dress the generations, no matching required

Plan on two or three looks. Choose a color palette instead of matching outfits, and dress yourself first so you feel your best. At your consultation we review what everyone plans to wear and plan the session around it.

Why it matters

Your kids won’t remember the dishes. They’ll remember you.

Ask someone who has lost their mother what they wish they had more of, and you’ll often hear the same answer: photos of her. Not posed perfection, just her, laughing, holding them, being there. Being in the picture isn’t vanity. It’s a gift to the people who will one day go looking for you.

Questions

A few more questions

Can my mother or grandmother join the session?

Yes. Three generations in one frame is one of my favorite things to photograph. Tell me when you book so we plan enough time for each combination.

What if my kids won’t cooperate?

They’re children, so the session is built for that. I direct the poses and keep the pace loose, and the unplanned moments often become the favorites.

How long is the session?

About 60 to 90 minutes, with portraits of you on your own, you with your children, and everyone together, at the studio or outdoors.

Is hair and makeup included?

Not right now. Come camera-ready, and use the studio vanity for touch-ups between looks.
